| Sign Up: To sign up for the Cool Pool Hockey League, visit the Sign Up Page on the main page here at TheCoolPool.com. Fill out all required fields and we will respond and put you on the waiting list for the pool. Team Names: Each player will choose a real (current or in the past) Minor League Hockey team name to use for themselves, such as the Springfield Falcons or the Providence Bruins. No two players can have the same team name. Here is a helpful site to help choose a team name: http://www.logoserver.com/Hockey.html Picks/Deadlines: Each player will submit picks weekly before Sunday at 9:00pm ET. Any picks received after 9:00pm ET weekly will NOT be accepted, and that player will forfeit their matchup for the week. The league allows two forfeits per season. A third forfeit by any team automatically results in the removal and replacement of that player. A forfeit will result in -27 points for that player for the week that they forfeited. December 19th - January 3rd will be a Holiday Break for the league. No games will count during that period. Scoring will end for the Holidays on December 18th and resume again on January 4th. There is no All Star break in 2009-10 because of the Winter Olympics (No NHL All Star Game). Scoring: Each weekly matchup will happen from Monday - Friday. Monday/Tuesday will be the 1st period. Wednesday will be the second period, and Thursday/Friday will be the third and final period for the week. Each week every player will choose 9 games, 3 for each period. When submitting picks, each game will be given wager points, either 1, 2 or 3 points. If the team you chose to win wins, you earn those points. However, if that team loses, you get negative points. It is possible to end up with a negative point total for a weekly score. Example: Your Picks: Boston over Los Angeles (3 Points) St. Louis over Chicago (3 Points) Minnesota over Dallas (1 Point) Boston Wins (+3), Chicago Wins (-3), Dallas Wins (-1). You get -1 points. The object of the league is to get more points each week than your opponent. If you earn more points than your opponent, you will receive one win. However, if your opponent scores more points than you, you will take one loss. Tie Breaking: In the event that the scores are tied between two teams after three periods of play, the tie will be broken using the following criteria: 1. Number of periods won during the week. 2. Your period one teams goals scored compared to the opponent. The player with the highest amount of goals scored from their 3 teams combined will win the tie. 3. Your period two teams goals scored compared to the opponent. The player with the highest amount of goals scored from their 3 teams combined will win the tie. 4. Your period three teams goals scored compared to the opponent. The player with the highest amount of goals scored from their 3 teams combined will win the tie. 5. If the above 4 criteria still leaves the score tied, your total points for the season entering the weekly matchup will be used. Schedule and Divisions: After the season sign-up deadline has been reached, a round robin schedule will be developed. The Cool Pool Hockey League regular season will run 14 weeks from November 9th to February 26th. The playoffs will then run from March 1st - March 19th. New teams will be randomly split into two 8 team conferences with two divisions each. All returning teams will remain in the conference and division they have been in. Playoffs: The Cool Pool Hockey League playoffs will be held the first three weeks of March, beginning on Monday March 1st. Each of the four division winners are invited, along with two wild card teams. There will be a total of five matchups during the post season. The wild card teams are the players who are not already division winners that have the highest amount of weekly points during the season. There will be one wild card player from each conference. Week 1 (March 1st - March 5th) will consist of both wild card teams matched up against the division winner that had the lowest amount of season points during the regular season. The division winner that had the most season points during the season in each conference will have a bye week during week 1. Week 2 (March 8th - March 12th) will consist of the winners of week 1 against the division winners that had a bye during week 1. Week 3 (March 15th - March 19th) will be the Championship matchup. Both winners from week 2 will advance to the championship game, and the champion will be the winner of this matchup. |
