Jacki Lapointe and the Hamilton Gulls
2011 Cool Pool Hockey League CHAMPIONS!

Jacki Lapointe joined the Cool Pool Hockey League during week 2 of the 2010-2011 season, and as a rookie team maintained second in the Norris Division all season. The Gulls entered the playoffs as the #3 seed in the Campbell Conference (wild card), and had one of the toughest playoff schedules. Week 1 they matched up against the #2 seed, two-time champion South Carolina Stingrays and their coach Will Riney. It was a close game, with the win for the Gulls coming on a tie breaker, 6-5. During week 2, the Gulls played the strongest team in recent memory, the #1 seed Providence Bruins. It was an easy 7-2 victory for the Gulls.

Then, there was the Championship game. Matched up against the #1 seed in the Wales conference, the Springfield Falcons (who have been in the championship game for three straight years). Every year since The Cool Pool implemented the 3 week championship series, the Championship Game has gone all three weeks. It was expected again in 2011.

Week 1 ended with some low scores. Negative scores to be exact. Thanks to both teams picking all 9 games the same, it came down to how many points each player alotted for each game. After Montreal, Columbus and Philadelphia lost in the first period, the Gulls led -4 to -6. The second period was more kind, with Vancouver and San Jose winning, the Gulls led -1 to -4. After the Islanders and Rangers lost in period 3, the Gulls were victorious for week 1, -2 to -6.

The Falcons were hoping to turn it around in week 2 to force a week 3, but after St. Louis, Montreal, New York Rangers and Florida losses, there was really no hope left for the Falcons, who finished second in the league for three straight seasons.

The Hamilton Gulls become the fourth team to win the Cool Pool Hockey championship in the 5 year history of the pool. Jacki Lapointe is the second rookie player in a row to win the title.
