| Team Names: All players must select a team name. Team names must be one of two ways; (1) Name Mascot (ex: Miller's Hitmen) or (2) Location Mascot (ex: Waxhaw Thrillers). Schedule and Divisions: After the season sign-up deadline has been reached, a round robin schedule will be developed. The Football Cool Pool regular season will be run during the NFL's weeks 1-13. NFL weeks 14-17 will constitute the Football Cool Pool Playoffs. Teams will be randomly split into two 14 team divisions with four divisions each (based on a 28 team league). Season Teams: Your “Season Team” is a team that you choose at the beginning of the season that will count towards your score every week. Each week when that team wins, loses or ties, you will earn or lose points based on their performance. Beginning in the 2009 - 10 season, there will be different categories of season teams. The "A List" teams will be the "stronger" teams in the NFL, like the New England Patriots or Indianapolis Colts. If you choose an "A List" team as a season team, they will be worth only 1 (one) point if they win. However, "B List" teams will be those teams that don't normally perform very well. Teams like the Detroit Lions and San Francisco 49ers will be on this list. B List teams will be worth 2 (two) points if they win. Regardless of which list a team is on, they are worth -1 point for a loss. You will be allowed to change your season team three times per season, however these changes can only happen AFTER weeks 4, 8 and 12. You may pick the same team twice per season (Example: You have NE for weeks 1 - 4, switch to IND for weeks 5 - 8, and go back to NE for weeks 9 - 12). The big thing here will be that your season team on week 13 will be your season team throughout the playoffs. Before each week that season teams may change, the A and B lists will be updated using the standings on NFL.com. The top 2 teams in each division will be on the A list, and the bottom two teams in each division will be on the B list. If your season team has a Bye week, you will receive 0 points. Game of the Week: When players submit picks each week, they will also choose the following week's game of the week. The council member for the Football Cool Pool will pick four matchups for the following week that the players will choose from. The game of the week is a game designated each week as a three point game. Picks: Changing Weekly Picks If you wish to make a change to your picks, you must do so before the 9:00pm ET Saturday deadline. No picks can be changed after the deadline has passed. Missing Picks No late picks will be accepted. If your picks are not in by the 9:00pm ET Saturday deadline, you will forfeit your game for the week. If you miss sending in your picks twice, your team will be taken over by the league and given to one of the players on the waiting list. If you will not have access to a computer in time to enter weekly picks, please email Greg or Will to discuss this. Game Cancellation/Postponement If a game is cancelled/postponed, that game will be thrown out for all players on the week it was cancelled or postponed. The game will be picked up by all players on the week it is rescheduled, if it falls on a Sunday. Scoring: Determining Weekly Winners All players will choose the winner of every Sunday game. A game where you correctly picked the winner is worth 1 point. A game where you did not correctly choose the winner is worth 0 points. Your weekly point total is determined by adding the amount of weekly wins you have, your “Season Team” results, plus your “Game of the Week” results. For example, if you chose 5 games correct, plus your “Season Team” wins, but you lose the “Game of the Week”, your weekly score would be 6 or 7 (depending on which list your season team is on). If you outscore your opponent, you will be credited with a win for that week. Weekly Points Regardless of which team wins a particular weekly match-up, both teams will get to keep their weekly points. Weekly points are earned from totaling your correct games plus “Game of the Week” and “Season Team” points. Scoring Discrepancies and Errors If you find a problem with the scoring for a week, you must let Greg or Will know immediately. All scores become final once the first game of the next week begins, or after 7 days. Score checking will be done by two to three Cool Pool officials each week to insure that each team’s correct score and “Weekly Points” are counted. Determining a Regular Season Champion The 2009 Football Cool Pool League Regular Season Champion will be the team with the most wins in the regular season. In the event of a tie in the amount of regular season wins, the team with the most total weekly points will be the winner. If both teams have the same amount of total weekly points, then the regular season head to head record of those teams, and then their season team will be the tie breaker. Determining Teams Making the Playoffs Based on a 28 team league, the 3 divisional winners in each conference will earn playoff berths. These teams will be ranked 1 through 3 based on their win/loss records. The other two spots in each conference will be filled with 3 wild card teams. The first and second wild card teams will be the teams with the highest win % in the conference that aren't already in the playoffs. If there is a tie, that tie will be broken with total weekly points for the season, and then head to head records. The third wild card team will be the team with the highest amount of weekly points in each conference. The tie breaker here will be win %, and then head to head record. The Football Cool Pool playoffs will constitute NFL regular season weeks 14 through 17. Determining an Overall Champion The 2009-2010 Football Cool Pool Champion will be the winner of the week 17 Championship Game. Tie Breaking: In a Regular Season Game If there is a tie in a regular season game, the result of the players season teams will be their tie breaker. Whoever's team wins, wins that tie. If the players who tied have the same “Season Team” or both “Season Teams” win or lose, the player with the highest amount of weekly points entering the game will win the tie. For week 1 only, the second tiebreaker will be weekly points total from last season. New players are considered to have 0 points in the previous season. In a Playoff Game If there is a tie in a playoff game, the tiebreaker will fall back to the regular season record of each team's season team. If that does not break the tie, regular season points total will break the tie. If there remains a tie after those two criteria, then regular season record will be the tie breaker. The final tie breaker, if none of the above break it, will be head-to-head record during the current year's regular season. |
