As the 2007 Football Cool Pool regular season winded down, only 12 teams were left standing. In the Miller Conference, Miller’s Hitmen (11-2), the Frankfurt Galaxy (11-2), the Sullivan Smashers (7-6) and Big TD’s (9-4) advanced as Divisional Champions. Smashmouth Football (9-4, 174 points) and the Drew Crew (8-5, 172 points) advanced as the Wild Cards.
In the Riney Conference, the Steel Armadillos (7-6), Gateway Aliens (9-4), Lucky Stars (8-5) and Dr. Z (8-5) advanced as Divisional Champions. Helton’s Bandits (7-6, 173 points) and the Waxhaw Thrillers (6-7, 173 points) advanced as Wild Cards.
In the first round of the playoffs, the Hitmen and Galaxy (Miller Conference) and the Aliens and Dr. Z (Riney Conference) sat out with bye’s. The Big TD’s topped the Drew Crew 19-17. The Sullivan Smashers ran by Smashmouth Football 19-15. The Lucky Stars got a tiebreaker win over the Waxhaw Thrillers in a 20-20 tie. Finally, Helton’s Bandits got a tiebreaker win over the Steel Armadillos in an 18-18 tie.
In round two, Dr. Z upended the Lucky Stars in a tiebreaker after a 14-14 tie. The Gateway Aliens topped division rival Helton’s Bandits 15-11. Miller’s Hitmen eked out a tiebreaker win over the Big TD’s in a 14-14 tie. In the final game, the Frankfurt Galaxy got a tiebreaker win over the Sullivan Smashers in a 16-16 tie.
In the Conference Championships, the Gateway Aliens rode their #1 seed past Dr. Z with an 18-16 win. Number 2 seed Miller’s Hitmen grabbed a 17-16 win over the top seeded Frankfurt Galaxy.
In the Football Cool Pool Championship Game regulation play ended in an 11-11 tie between the Gateway Aliens and Miller’s Hitmen. In the Overtime period, the Aliens out scored the Hitmen 5-4 to take the Championship 16-15. Way to Gateway Aliens and Coach Adam Riney. Congratulations also go out to runner-up Greg Miller, coach of the Miller’s Hitmen.
